Here is my rejection letter from Rice University and my response to it. I really enjoyed writing it :)
Dear David,
The Committee on Admission has completed a careful evaluation of your application for admission to Rice. I regret to inform you that the Committee has elected to deny your request for admission. This decision is final for the fall of 2007. We take seriously your choice to apply Interim Decision, and we want you to know that our decision did not come easily.
The competition for admission to Rice has grown considerably in recent years. Although the number of applicants is ten times greater than the number of available spaces, the university remains committed to maintaining our small size. The Committee's decision is not a negative reflection on your ability; rather, it is the result of a large number of outstanding candidates vying for a small number of first-year student spaces.
This letter was mailed to you on February 9. I am personally sorry to have to send you disappointing news. However, because of your ability and potential for success, I am confident that you will discover other rewarding options for achieving your higher educational goals. We appreciate the time and effort you put into your application to Rice, and we extend our best wishes for every success in your collegiate career.
Yours sincerely,
Julie M. Browning
Dean for Undergraduate Enrollment
======MY REPONSE=======
Dear Rice University,
The Committee on college rejection has completed a careful evaluation of your letter of rejection for David Hodge. I regret to inform you that the committee has elected to deny your request of rejection. This decision is final for the fall of 2007. We don’t take seriously your choice to reject David for Interim Decision, and we want you to know that our decision did come easily.
You should be aware that the competition for David Hodge has grown considerably in recent years; you should consider yourself lucky that he applied to your institution. In consideration of your comment that Rice is committed to keeping its small size, our Committee would like to alert you to the fact that David is only 120 pounds and has metabolism that shows no signs of slowing. Our Committee's decision is not a negative reflection on your ability; rather, it is the result of a large number of admission committee’s that are better than you at your job.
I am personally sorry to have to send you disappointing news. However, because of your lack of ability and potential for success, I am confident that you will discover other qualified students to reject. We appreciate the time and effort you put into your rejection form letter, and we extend our best wishes for every success in your admissions career.
Yours sincerely,
David W. Hodge
